Asian Font Gibberish 3

From Shannon Larratt's BMEzine.com gallery, here is a July 27th posting from Bulgaria:

Two of my earlier postings (one & two) have already talked about some people would download this so called "Asian Font" from the internet and tattoo themselves with gibberish.

If you have not seen Clerks II, Shannon Larratt had a brief role in the movie. He was the "Ear Guy" in Mooby's.

  1. Maybe it's 乎 just... backwards and missing the top? o_O

  2. I think that the first character is a poorly written unofficial Japanese variant of 第 (dai, the cardinal prefix) that is found in handwriting. That character does not exist in computer typing codes but looks like a Katakana Ya (ヤ) with two extra strokes. This one looks like that.

  3. Has anyone been able to download the font and reverse-engineer what these people are trying to tattoo on themselves?

  4. Yes, but do the final five characters make any kind of sense?

It looks, to me, like the "cousin" (metaphorically speaking, of course) of Kim Maher's tattoo from two or so weeks ago.

  5. The first character looks like 戈.

  6. Hmm. Maybe a really terrible attempt at the radical in 或...... Oh wait, anonymous already said that.

Either way, still means nothing =P

  7. Or perhaps the first one is 弋 with an extra dot at the top left.

  8. Even though the characters are nonsensical, at least the tattoo appears to have been done by a professional, rather than in prison or by James Robinson.

Incidentally? Tattoos on your calf or thigh are even trashier than lower-back tats.

Did you look at the enlarged view of the tattoo? It is actually a thoroughly horrible piece of work. The calligraphy, if it can be said to be such, is awful and the tattoo work has this wierd "double exposure" quality where the outline is not completely filled in and the contours do not match.

It is also just nonsensical and meaningless gibberish except in the minds of the miscreants who seem to have taken to this faux "asian font" to write things on themselves that they are too embarrassed to write using the Roman alphabet.

Although he seems to be a thoroughly vile and contemptible person, James at least seems able to fill an outline with tattoo ink. That may be his only positive quality.

  10. I didn't say the artist knew anything about the language or the calligraphy. I'm just saying that this tat shows more raw technical skill compared to many of the prison-quality tattoos seen on this site. I think the "double exposure" effect is intentional, meant to give the letters a sort of embossed effect, and probably also to justify charging more.

  11. A belated analysis... Using the "say no to niggers" idiot as the key, this tattoo seems to read "IN?EAL", where the question mark is a character we haven't seen yet. Merriam-Webster doesn't have any English language suggestions for what the missing letter might be... any ideas from other languages?

Yes, and I think the ? is "R" so this is supposed to read INREAL. But who knows what this means or what language it is in.

  13. Hmm, maybe it was meant to represent "UNREAL" and they made a typo or chose the wrong symbol from their gibberish "Asian" font.
