"Exotic Atmosphere"

I really hope this was just a photo error, but I doubt it. If they are done correctly, 調 would mean "exotic atmosphere".

  1. Ha! That would certainly be an exceedingly polite and obtuse way of describing something best left unmentioned... (-_-)

  2. 異國=different country

    so it means
    passion(?) of different country
    (foreign passion??)

If broken into its parts, "yìguó qíngdiào" (異國情調) would mean "foreign country" and "mood". But, as a whole, "exotic atmosphere" is indeed the correct translation.

  4. hm... may be my definition of "exotic" is not very good? I thought of 異乎尋常?

  5. Where I come from (Southern China), it's more natural to say 異國風情. Is 異國情調 supposed to be more commonly used in Taiwan or Hong Kong?

    Thanks!
